OUTRAGEOUSLY FUN DINOSAUR DIG SENSORY BIN

Looking for a fun dinosaur themed sensory activity?  Look no further!  This easy-to-make dinosaur dig sensory bin will have your kids exploring and learning just like mini paleontologists!

As part of my ongoing series, ABC Sensory, we’ve been exploring a different sensory activity for each letter of the alphabet.  And for today’s letter D sensory bin, we’ll be doing a Dinosaur Dig!  In this post I’ll show you exactly what you’ll need to make a letter D dinosaur dig sensory bin.  Plus, I created a FREE checklist to help you along the way.  Click the link to get access before getting started: FREE Idea Checklist: How To Create ABC Sensory Bins.

    Supplies

    Directions

Fill your sensory bin with black beans.  Then add the plastic dinosaurs, dinosaur bones, and letter D’s.

Learning note:  When doing this with my kids, I like to include the actual letter D shapes along with the dinosaurs.  I find this helps reinforce the letter we’re learning about.  The more a child sees a letter, the more they’ll come to recognize it.

    Make It A Game

Try pushing all the letter D’s and dinosaur bones under the black beans so they’re “hiding.”  Then let your kids dig through the black beans to try and find them all!

    Sneak In Some Learning

As your child is playing, try asking questions like:

“What letter are we learning about today?”

“What sound does the letter D make?”

“D is for what?…. Dinosaur Dig!”

When I did this with my kids, they had fun racing each other to see who could find the most bones.  After they found them all, they got to work trying to build the dinosaurs.  The set we used had little pegs and notches in each bone so you could put them together to build mini dinosaur skeletons.  Not all of the bones fit or stayed together, but that didn’t seem to bother my kids.

Overall this dinosaur-themed activity was a big hit with my kids.  And I loved that they were learning at the same time!

Try Making Your Own Dinosaur Dig Sensory Bin

This letter D sensory bin can be used over and over again.  Whenever you need a little quite, hands-on play time, pull out your dinosaur dig sensory bin and let your kids go to town!
