Supplies
Clothespins (5 per flag)
Wooden dowel rods – ¼ inch
Red, white, and blue beads
School glue or Hot glue gun

Directions
Clip your clothespins to your wooden dowel rod.

The top clothespin should be flush with the top of the dowel rod.

Five clothespins should look like this.

Next, string 12 beads onto a sturdy piece of string. (This is a great exercise for the kids to practice their fine motor skills!) The first row should have 5 blue beads and 7 red beads.

Run a line of glue along the first clothespin. (We ended up using a hot glue gun so the beads would adhere to the clothespins faster) While pulling your string tightly, lay the beads on top of the line of glue. Wait until the beads are secure then pull the string out, leaving only the beads behind.

Repeat the process for each row of beads.
Row 1: 5 blue beads, 7 red beads
Row 2: 5 blue beads, 7 white beads
Row 3: 5 blue beads, 7 red beads
Row 4: 12 white beads
Row 5: 12 red beads

And you’re all set to celebrate the fourth of July with your own handmade clothespin flag!
