Let the kids have some good-old messy fun with a Mud Sensory Bin. It’s super easy to create and makes for an awesome sensory experience!
As part of my ongoing series, ABC Sensory, we’ve been exploring a different sensory activity for each letter of the alphabet. And for today’s letter M sensory bin, we’ll be making a Mud Sensory Bin! In this post I’ll show you exactly how easy it is to make. Plus, I created a FREE checklist to help you along the way. Supplies
Water
Dirt
Pigs and/or farming toys
Letter M Shapes (upper case and lower case)
Directions
Have your kids use a small shovel and bucket to gather some dirt. My kids thought it was great when I told them they could go dig a hole in our backyard!
Next, dump the dirt into a large plastic sensory bin.
Slowly pour in some water and mix until mud forms.
Add in some pigs, farming toys, and letter M’s. (Including letters in your sensory bin will help reinforce the letter that your child is learning about.)
And that’s it. Super easy, right? Now let the kids get their hands dirty and have some fun!
Make It A Game
Have your kids search through the mud to try and find all the letter M’s that are hiding in there!
When I did this my kids, their favorite part was squishing and squeezing the mud between their fingers. It kept them entertained for a really long time! And when they were done with that, they went to work covering the pigs with mud and pouring water on them to clean them off.
Sneak In Some Learning
As your child is playing, try asking questions like:
“What letter are we learning about today?”
“What sound does the letter M make?”
“M is for what?…. Mud!”
