THE FUN AND EASY WAY TO MAKE A LETTER ‘A’ SENSORY BIN

Are you looking for a fun new way to introduce the letter ‘A’ to your preschooler?  Sensory bins are a great tool for early learning.  And making a letter ‘A’ sensory bin couldn’t be easier.

Supplies

• Plastic bin

• Bag of White Rice

• Letter ‘A’ Shapes (upper case and lower case)

• Objects that start with the letter A. We used the acorns from the game: The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game, but anything that starts with the letter ‘A’ will do!

Directions

Fill your bin with white rice, letter ‘A’s, and acorns (or whichever letter ‘A’ object you’ve chosen to use).

I’ve found that using letter ‘A’s (along with the acorns) helps to reinforce the letter we’re learning about.  The more your child sees the letter ‘A’, the more they’ll come to recognize it.

Make It A Game

Try pushing all the acorns and letter ‘A’ shapes down into the rice so they’re “hiding.”  Then let your kids dig through the rice to try and find them all!

Sneak In Some Learning

As your child is playing, try asking questions like:

“What letter are we learning about today?”

“What sound does the letter ‘A’ make?”

“A is for what? Acorn!”

When I did this with my daughter, she spent a good hour digging through the rice, letting it sift through her fingers, pulling out all the letter objects, and burying them back in the rice again.  And she didn’t even realize she was learning at the same time (mom win!).

Try It For Yourself

A super easy way to teach letter sounds, this letter ‘A’ sensory bin can be used over and over again.  Whenever you need a little quite, hands-on play time, pull out your sensory bin and let your kids go to town.  And you can feel good knowing that your kids are learning at the same time!
