First things first.  You’ll want to make some Father’s Day themed stencils.  I used my Cricut cutting machine to cut these stencils out of cardstock.  If you don’t have a Cricut (you should get one, they’re awesome!) you can just cut out your stencils by hand with a pair of scissors.  Try shapes like a tie, a beard, a heart, or the letters D-A-D.

Next, put some shaving cream on a paper plate.  Use your old gift card to smooth the shaving cream down so it’s nice and flat.

Drop several dots of food coloring around the top of the shaving cream.

Drag a toothpick back and forth across the top of the shaving cream to create a marbled look.

Techniques

There are a few different techniques you can use to apply the shaving cream to your paper.

  • Simply turn your paper over and lay it directly on top of the shaving cream. (This creates a neat marbled look on your paper)

  • Scrape the shaving cream onto the paper with an old gift card.

  • Apply the shaving cream to the paper with a paintbrush.

For the reverse cut stencils, we used the gift card technique.

To do this, you’ll need to scoop up a small amount of shaving cream onto your gift card.

Then, press down firmly, and drag the gift card across the stencil.

Now, remove your stencil and check out the awesomeness that you’ve created!  I just love how the colors blend together!

Wait a few minutes for the paint to dry slightly, then you can either use a napkin to dab away the excess shaving cream, or use your gift card to scrape it away (be careful though, as this may smear the edges of your image a bit).

Here’s another one we did using the same technique.

For the stencil cutouts, we used the paintbrush technique.

Simply use the paintbrush to apply the colored shaving cream around the outside edges of the stencil.

Here are a few more prints we did.

Then, once they’ve fully dried, cut out your images and glue them to the front of a card for dad!
